ARTIFACT: Cultural Competence Paper

During the first semester in our professional Issues class we had the opportunity to learn about cultural competence and how a person's background can sometimes change the way we communicate or do therapy with a patient. In learning about cultural competence I understood that we need treat our patients with equal respect no matter what their background is and have an attitude of professionalism with our patients and their families. One of the final assignments we had for this class was to write a paper on the importance of cultural competence in the Healthcare field. This really helped me fully understand why cultural competence is so important and gave me resources to back it up.
